American Pilgrimage Intro
Five machines sat humming, ready to begin.
On the road to the future but with headlights rather dim,
the driver yelled, "Harvard" and slammed shut the door.
With the five and their carry-ons, there was not room for more.
Now Harvard was known for taking the big and the small,
the brains, the jocks, the partiers, the artsy, the withdrawn, everyone and all.
Each student came with their own intentions,
but never had a group come with so many preventions
of living joyously and finding success.
This group was doomed but couldn't care less.

Amer Pil: Bernard's Prologue
The first sat guzzling and munching away.
Tossing wrappers in the can, he thought of basketball and longed to play.
He squirmed and groaned loudly as his limbs curled and stung.
With size fifteen feet, out in the aisle he hung
the most ginormous hands ever to grip through the air.
His triceps and biceps could frighten a bear.
His head shined and sparkled with a golden like tint,
resembling a gold medal but without the fine print.
His eyes moved about rapidly and seemed not to focus,
only on a ball or a girl, but if you think he wanted a relationship that's bogus.
See, day after day Bernard sweated, crunched, and pumped

Amer Pil: Kieu's Prologue
The second was scribbling notes, in the midst of a book,
always rushing through homework from the advanced classes she took.
This girl appeared so perfect, with a thin body and black hair stiffly pulled back,
but there was something that in this Asian's life she did lack.
As she studied and studied and studied some more,
she had no time for laughter and would not open the door
on that Friday night a classmate called and asked her to dinner.
Instead Kieu forced herself to focus, for she needed to be the winner
of the highest GPA, 5.1 to be exact, of anyone around.
She knew that without studying she was bound
to fail and that meant d

Amer Pil: Lisa's Prologue
With mascara lines down her cheeks, the third's fingers went wild,
as on her cell phone she texted her mother and cried like a child.
Sentimental is Lisa, with her brown and purple hair.
She lives for relationships and her heart is filled with care.
She thinks about all the friends she is leaving behind,
the ones she's stayed up eating icecream with and been so kind
as to willingly fail test after test for and grow even more wide
because only for their happiness does she want to abide.
Another note about Lisa is she is very romantic.
The fact that she is leaving someone behind is gigantic.
See just a year ago Lisa fell so deeply in

Amer Pil: Henry's Prologue
The fourth one sat waiting with trigger in his hand,
ready for the perfect moment to kill, the gun his command.
He aimed and fired away, killing not one, two, but three.
His face became all smiles as he laughed with glee,
but then in an instant Henry's smile did disapear.
This was not the moment he had been waiting for all year.
Instead of entering the unknown domain of Halo XII, mysterious level seventeen,
words of "game over" filled his computer's screen.
Henry let out a sigh and sunk deeper under his gray hood.
He was dreading introducing himself to the annoying Lisa girl.
Thoughts of past conversations made him want to hurl.

Amer Pil: Sabrina's Prologue
The fifth one sat flipping through People magazine, admiring the stars.
She loves to read about broken relationships and who got arrested at the bars.
Sabrina looks at the questionable acts of the famous with jealousy and awe.
Not realizinge that she herself is the girl others laugh about and say they saw
making out with another girl at the big party last night.
Sabrina probably would not remember anyway because she drank too much Miller Lite.
Ever since the girl was small, she has been treated like royalty
from her family making her feel more special than you and me.
She was born with a voice, athleticism, and was very bright.
Howev
There once was a women named Sue who married, had children, and felt obligated to be
supportive of her children in every way, in order to be called the perfect mother by you and me.
So right away she began rushing Jim, Jon, Jenna, and Jill to sports,
from soccer, football, karate, gymnastics, ballet and all sorts.
She rushed away to work at two different jobs a day.
She believed they needed extra cash so that she could afford to pay
a cook to come and make them lavish dishes with three courses and dessert.
She also ran to the drycleaner constanlty to keep wrinkles and stains off every shirt.
She frequently visited the drugstore buyi
