The -volleyball- dive by eyenoticed The -volleyball- dive by eyenoticed
MSUM volleyball. This was taken from the floor with the 50mm. My boss just told me today that I should take all photos from the stands. They looked at the hundreds of photos I took last week without me looking/deleting/editing any and think I only took "about ten" usable photos. I don't have a long lens this week so I feel that getting closer is better with the 50 mm.

Any thoughts??

Thanks so much!!! I really appreciate the feedback as volleyball is so hard and I am constantly questioning what is good.

I like this one a lot - a tense moment, full of concentration on the faces and there's a nice composition as a bonus.

The trouble with volleyball is that both teams are kept apart, there's only straight confrontation at the net.
You'd really have to ask why they want you to shoot from the stands. I have a feeling it doesn't have to do with the quality of shots like these, but with a wish to have pictures with both teams on them.

Thanks so much!!

The reason she wants me to be up high is because she said I wasn't getting people's faces in the photos from below.

Ah, okay, so you'll be sitting at eye-level of the players?

You're welcome!

You need not question this one :)
If your boss really wants all photos to be taken from the stands, you're going to need a telephoto zoom lens (probably like up to 200mm or 300mm) & a speedlite
